Watched this really hilarious film last evening about a woman who's possessed by a vengeful ghost. after a Catholic priest's chantings fail to exorcise the ghost, the hero (who maintains his wooden expression when he is happy, sad, amorous or frightened) recites the hanuman chalisa in the possessed woman's ear and wheeee, the ghost pops out of it in a blue luminous cloud and she's fine. now conspiracy theorists say the film was produced by the Bajrang Dal and that the dental association and the clockmakers association pitched in generously. the Dal, obviously for the hanuman connection. the dental assoc because the possessed woman is in desperate need of a teeth polishing job and the clockmakers assoc because the woman for a reason best known to the director keeps saying 'tick tock tick tock tick tock' in a most annoying manner. and so, dear mr bhatt, all 15 people in the 100 seat theatre laughed their way through the show, except one - my friend. she spent most of her time with her eyes shut in fear. everytime the wailing and screeching rose to a crescendo as the woman sprinted around the haunted house or bungeed down the stairs, i would tell her to open her eyes and please watch so she could laugh with the rest of us. but she kept her eyes tightly shut and said she found the film really scary. Happy, mr bhatt? now, here's her benchmark: the girl finds The Mummy extremely scary.
